William Randolph Hearst
Like his father, William Randolph Hearst showed an interest in politics. He had the means to build himself substantial media support, and using his resources, he ran for Congress as a progressive Democrat. He was elected to the House of Representatives from 1903 to 1907, twice winning a House seat. However, once elected, his demanding life as a journalist left him little time to participate in Congress. His inactivity and lack of participation angered many of his supporters and fellow Congressmen. He ran twice more for other political offices, once as an independent candidate for mayor of New York City in 1905 and once as a Democratic candidate for  governor of New York in 1906. He lost both elections and his political career ended soon after.
